When renting a car, expect an upgrade Friday, August 24, 2008 If you have a car rental in your future, a free upgrade could be coming your way. Higher fuel prices are increasing the demand for small cars, so need is outpacing supply. Beware the hard sell on rental insurance. It's a good idea to call your credit card company to find out what kind of insurance coverage you will have and also check with your auto insurance company. Keep gasoline receipts if you are driving fewer than 75 miles with the rental. Budget recently tried to charge me $13.99 "for my convenience" when I rented a car. Car rental companies have been charging this fee for a while, but rates have gone up. I fueled the car, presented the receipt and had the fee removed. Source: |
