An Arklow man caught driving without insurance faces a bill of €600 after appearing before Arklow District Court last week. Darragh Burke, of Beech Road, Arklow, admitted that he drove without insurance on the Emoclew Road, Arklow, on April 13 this year, but said it was an oversight.

The court heard he was insured on three other vehicles but not the Ford Transit he was driving on the day.

He was also convicted on one count of failing to wear a seat belt. Judge Donnchadh O Buachalla fined him €200 for the seat belt charge and, while finding the facts proven on the insurance charge, recorded no conviction but instead ordered Burke pay €400 to the Garda Benevolent Fund.
